Wyoming State Veteran's Benefits
The State of Wyoming offers many programs to help Veterans. The Converse County Assessor's Office and Treasurer's Office work together to offer reductions on property taxes or plates. There are also Veteran, Disabled Veteran, POW, and Purple Heart plates. More information can be obtained by contacting the Treasurer's Office, or by viewing resources made available by Military.com. In addition, Military.com has many programs that Veterans can apply for, from our own Tax Exemption program and some of the special plates the State of Wyoming offers, to reduced or free Fishing, Hunting, and Park passes.
Specialty plates are available and more details are available on our Specialty plate page.
A copy of the Veterans Property Tax Exemption Application can be obtained visiting the Department of Revenue website.
The County Assessor's Office administrates a program by which an honorably discharged veteran may receive 3,000 valuation points per year to apply towards property taxes or license plates.
3,000 valuation points translates into $90 per year for license plates. The 3,000 valuation points can translate into more money saved for property taxes depending on the mill levies. Please contact the County Assessor's Office for any questions about enrolling or advice on applying to either vehicles or property taxes.
There is also an exemption for people who are deemed as more than 50% disabled through the Veteran's Administration (VA). People with that designation can provide a copy of their statement from the VA and claim a full exemption on 1 vehicle registered in Wyoming with Disabled Vet Plates.
Please contact the Treasurer's Office for more information about the Disabled Veteran's exemption.
