Commercial Registration

A Commercial Vehicle is any vehicle or vehicle combination used, designed or maintained for transportation of persons for hire, compensation for profit, or used primarily for the transportation of property for gain and profit and: Commercial license plates are issued to vehicles meeting the above criteria.

Expiration
Commercial registrations are always paid for the calendar year and always expire in March. Since they must expire in March, they are the only registrations that may be sold for less than 12 months. EXAMPLE

Fees
Fees for commercial plates are broken into a County Fee and a State Fee. The County Fee is calculated in the same way as a regular registration. The State Fee is calculated depending on the gross vehicle weight of the vehicle or combination using this WEIGHT TABLE.

Discounts
There are several discounts available for commercial registrations only. The discounts allow the owner of the vehicle to only pay a percentage of the total county fee. Only 1 of the following discounts can be applied to a registration:

If a commercial vehicle is purchased in April, the owner would be charged for 9 months - (April through December) and expire in March of the following year.

If a commercial vehicle is purchased in November, the owner would pay for 2 months (November & December) and expire in March of the following year.

For vehicles over 80,000 pounds, the fee will be $825.00 plus $25.00 for each additional 2,000 pounds.
