New Plates

Wyoming issues new plates on all vehicles every 8 years. New plates are currently being issued to vehicles displaying 2002 expiration stickers. There is no additional charge for the new plates.

Reserved Numbers
For Truck and Passenger plates, numbers 1 through 2500 will be reserved for their current owners.

Otherwise, reserved numbers may only be conveyed from one person to another if the plate owner gives written permission to someone else indicating they are relinquishing the plate number.

Plate numbers for Motorcycles, Trailers, House Trailers, Commercial Vehicles and Handicapped Plates are not reserved, and are all offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Counties
Counties may only issue plates that carry their COUNTY DESIGNATION.

Therefore, all plates issued at the Converse County Treasurer's Office carry the prefix 13.

Residents of Wyoming may license their vehicles in any Wyoming county, however the county that receives the money keeps it, regardless of the residency of the vehicle owner.

Expiration
Plates always expire a year from the month the vehicle was purchased, or a year from the month the vehicle entered the state. However, someone purchasing a registration may always select a different month, by paying additional fees and moving the expiration date. The registration must always be at least 12 months. EXAMPLE.

Dual Plates
Two license plates are issued for cars and trucks and both must be displayed - one in front and one in back - in order for a vehicle to be legally licensed.

Farm Stickers
Farm stickers may be issued to vehicles used in agricultural operations. The stickers are used to get through the Port of Entry more quickly and do not affect fees in any way.

If you currently expire in February, but would like to expire in March, you can move the expiration date to March by paying for 13 months.

If you expire in June but would like to expire in March, you can move the expiration date by paying for 21 months: June-June = 12; June-March = 9; 21 months total.

Since registrations must be sold for a minimum of 12 months, moving the expiration in this example requires paying 21 months instead of just 9.
